Staats/Challenge Las Vegas Race report |
|
With much
anticipation, the
STAATS / Challenge team
rolled into Las Vegas for the ABA Las Vegas
National. The million dollar question everyone
was asking each other since Utah was how many
moto’s, what age groups would carry the biggest
groups? After it was all said and done it was
the largest moto count at a national I can
remember. With some huge group counts, you can
imagine team managers as well as riders were
licking their chops. Coming off wins in each of
their last 3 nationals in Bakersfield, Roseville
and Utah. The
STAATS / Challenge
team hit the track looking to record their 12th
team score. 7 Girl
McKenzee
Kibbe started the racing off
for the
STAATS / Challenge team
taking home a 4th and 5th
in class for the weekend.
Heather Allred
finished
with a 3rd
on Saturday and a 2nd on
Sunday in 21-25 Girl Cruiser. 9x
Dustin Hammond
and
Dougie Butcher had a
rough day Saturday not making their Cruiser
mains but came back to place 5th and
8th in class Saturday.
Hammond
took it out on the field Sunday coming out of
the gate like a rocket to
take
the win in the 9x class.
Alden Volle was welcomed to the
11x class with the biggest rider count of the
weekend. Taking a 7th on Cruiser
Saturday, and a 6th in his class main
Saturday.
Volle took care of business
Sunday with a win in the biggest class of the
weekend 11x.
Alex Jones
had a tough weekend between kissing the gate
getting being run off the track and not getting
clipped in he still managed to make both Class
and Cruiser mains Sunday. After not
getting clipped in he never gave up pushing all
the way to the finish line ending up with a7th
in Class and 8th on cruiser in the
huge 11x group.
Dakotah
Isenberg
pulled out a strong 2nd on Saturday
and a 3rd on Sunday in 15 Cruiser and
4th and 6th in class. Melvin
Shadrick had a good weekend with a1st
and 2nd in the 31-35 Cruiser and a 1st
in class Sunday.
Joey Backus
survived the carnage Saturday in 19-27 Boys
taking home the win in one of biggest classes of
the weekend and a 3rd in 17 over open
Saturday and a 4th in Class Sunday.
Teammate
Corey Reid
took care of business Saturday winning the 17-20
Cruiser and taking 7th and 5th
in the 19-27 class. In 36-40 Cruiser
Chris Westbrook, coming
off of a bad spill in Utah put away the 20 inch
Sunday and made the main Sunday in 36-40
Cruiser,
Christian Camacho and
Danny Essley
rode hard and continue their training and look
forward to Reno. AA Pro
Josh Oie just missed the cut
Saturday and continues his new training program
and looks forward to his next challenge in Reno.
Josh will be leaving for a
tour in Japan with
STAATS in early August.
Our 247
score was good for a 2nd.Sunday and
put the
STAATS/Challenge
team into 3rd place over all.
Great Job everyone.

Staats/Challenge Salt Lake City Race Report |
|
The biggest National race of the year (Las
Vegas) will get started on Saturday
morning with the Red Riders of
Staats/Challenge
showing their colors in the parade/victory lap
to celebrate their Factory Team win in
Salt Lake City
on Sunday.
The little team has served notice that
they will “be in the mix “with Factory wins in
Bakersfield and Roseville, a 2nd, on
Saturday in Salt Lake City, and victory on a
hot, windy, sunny Sunday in Salt Lake City.
Alden
Volle and
Alex Jones
posted big doubles in 10X, 10 Cruiser and 11X
and 11 Cruiser on Saturday and dominated their
races for the weekend.
Dustin Hammond
and
Dougie Butcher
finished 2nd and 3rd. in 9
and Under Cruiser, and then traded finish spots
in the 9 Expert race on Saturday.
Dakotah Isenberg
was just warming up for Sunday with a 2nd
in
15 Cruiser and 5th in the 15 Expert
race.
Joey Backus
was 3rd in the 19-27 Expert and he
and
Heather Allred
told us they would better their finishes on
Sunday.
We welcomed our newest team member, 7
Girls,
Mckenzee Kibbe,
who was blushing red in her new uniform.
The second place team finish on Saturday
was refreshing after a long hot day of
competition.
On Sunday,
Heather Allred
started things off with a 1st, in
21-25 Girls Cruiser to
start the fire.
Dakotah Isenberg took control
of the 15 Cruiser race from start to finish for
another 1st.
Dustin Hammond
never quit pedaling to win the 9 Expert race
followed by a close second by
Dougie Butcher
in an exciting drag race to the finish line.
Alden Volle
“did his thing” despite a bad gate with a
“thread the needle”
move in the first corner to take 1st.
in the 10 Expert race.
Minutes later
Alex Jones
was leading his powder blue
Staats bike
across the finish line for
another
1st. in 11 Expert, giving him a
Double-Double ( 11 Cruiser ) for the weekend.
Mckenzee
Kibbe (7 Girls) and
Danny Essley
(14 Cruiser) were working it for two 4th
place finishes.
Dakotah Isenberg
knows how to ride smart and proved it in the 15
expert race in the last turn to avoid a pileup
and put up a 2nd. in a wild duel to
the finish line.
Joey Backus
made good on his prediction and ended up with a
2nd. in the 19-27 Expert race.
Chris Westbrook
will be nursing a finger or two after crashing
but will probably tape it up for the Vegas
races. Packing up the compound into our
Staats/Challenge
trailer was easy once we heard the Factory team
results.
Don’t miss any more excitement, fly,
drive or pedal to the Las Vegas Nationals!

winning ways at the Nor Cal Roseville National.
With an old
fashion CHALLENGE Team barbeque that
included waffles, pancakes, fruit and hot
Coffee for breakfast, rib eye steak, Corn on the
cob and cold Drinks for lunch. Flowers on the
tables with red table cloths and Kid and Dad
photo’s for Mothers day.
Racing
STAATS Ocean Blue team frames, the
STAATS/CHALLENGE team started where they left
off in Bakersfield with another big win on
Saturday.
It was the
Hammond/ Butcher show starting things off for
the STAATS CHALLENGE crew with Hammond winning
the 8x both days. Hammonds main competition
teammate Dougie Butcher was hot on his heals
ended up a close 2nd.
Another
STAATS/CHALLENGE rider on fire is 10x Alden
Volle. Taking (3) 1st. and a 2nd for the
weekend. Not bad since we weren’t sure Volle
would be racing at all until late Thursday due
to a week long illness. In 21 to 25 Girl cruiser
Heather Allred had the closest race of the
weekend with a photo finish win on cruiser
Sunday.
16 girl
Amanda Volle showed she has been off the horse
and on the bike ending up with a 2nd on Sunday.
11 x Alex Jones and 13 x Christian Camacho were
in the hunt all weekend. Look for these to be in
the hunt the rest of the year.
14
x Danny Essley and Chris Westbrook both rode
hard making mains showing the hard work is
paying off. In 31-35 Cruiser Melvin Shadrick
showed he will be someone to deal all season
long taking home another 1st on cruiser Sunday.
After taking a 1st in Bakersfield on Sunday
sealing the STAATS/CHALLENGE team win, 15 x
Dakota Isenberg rode great after taking a heard
fall at a race the week before. Finishing with
(2) 2nds on cruiser and a 4th & 5th in class.
New team member Joey Backus sported the
STAATS/CHALENGE for the 1st time. We look
forward to having the Backus family on board.
AA pro
Trevor Fay made his main both days on cruiser
finishing with a 5th and 4th. Not bad for a new
father and working 2 jobs. A Pro Tommy Bellew
just missed the mains. AA Pro Josh Oie made his
semi’s Saturday taking a 5th just missing the
main on Saturday and was on his way to a
possible semi coming from 6th to 3rd in the
first corner when he was escorted over the 2nd
corner berm.

STAATS / CHALLENGE Winter National Race report:
- March |
|
After 2 second place finishes with only 4 riders
in Pasco,
the Challenge crew started where they left off. Our 2
mighty mites Dustin Hammond and Dougie Butcher dominated
the 8 expert class all weekend long with Hammond
taking 2 first and Butcher taking a 2 on Saturday. 10
year old Alden Volle has been on fire all year, already
qualifying and receiving his Top Gun Jacket. Alden
started he started off the weekend with a win in 10 yr
old cruiser. Alden finished the weekend with a 2nd on
cruiser Sunday and a 3 rd and 4th in 10expet. 11 year
old Alex Jones looks like he is on his way back to his
to form making his mains both days in class and cruiser
with a 2nd on cruiser on Sunday and a 4th on class.
In his first race since turning 15, Dakotah
Isenberg took home a 1st on cruiser Saturday and with 45
riders after crashing in the main on Saturday, Isenberg
took a big 1st in class on Sunday. Perhaps the
best race of the day was in the 31-35 cruiser main
between STAATS /Challenge Melvin Shadrick and Linders
Brent Pee Wee-Lee. The two had been battling all weekend
long with Pee Wee getting the win Saturday. Sunday
Shadrick was not to be denied holding off Lee in the
final 2 turns for the win. Heather Allred had her
normal stellar weekend with a 1st on Saturday and a 2nd
on Sunday in 21-25 cruiser. Taking a break from
her training with horses, 16 yr old Amanda Volle made
her mains both days with a 5th on Saturday and a 2nd on
Sunday.
Looks like AA Pro Josh Oie is back on track. Oie a
2 time back to back Amateur champion and 2005 Rookie of
the year looked strong in route to making his AA main
Saturday but after hard crashes in each of the first 2
rounds of the main resulting in a slight concussion, the
STAATS /Challenge camp determined his weekend was over
but was very encouraged with what they saw.
AA Pro Trevor Fay was back on the track after
taking over a year off and becoming a new dad, Chris
Westbrook, A Pro Tommy Bellew and Christian Camacho all
rode hard and are looking forward to the next race in Bakersfield CA.

Staats Challenge Northwest National Race Report -
March

Big
was not necessarily better this past week-end in
Pasco, Washington.
With a small skeleton team of 4 riders
Staats Challenge
pulled down 2 second place factory team finishes and
held our own amongst the "Big Boys".
Both days started out with a win in 31 to 35 cruiser
by our newest member
Melvin Shadrick.
What a smile on this guy's face as he pulled to the
finish line in front of all comers!!!
Next was a win by
Heather Allred
in 21 to 25 girl’s cruiser. She was the one to
beat both days but it couldn't be done.
Then came little dynamo
Dustin Hammond
in 8X spinning his way to 2 days worth of wins
in class and open. He was also smiling ear to ear
with his double double.
So all that was left was for our 10x rider,
Alden Volle', to
do his thing and give
Staats Challenge a
perfect team sheet to turn in. And do it he
did!
Alden
dominated all week-end and came home with wins in
open, class and cruiser, giving him a triple, triple
and a Top Gun jacket as well!!
So all totaled our little team of 4 took home 14
wins all week-end!
Staats Challenge
is so proud of our riders and wants to thank our
generous sponsors, our competition and the ABA for a
great week-end in the Great northwest!
See you all in Phoenix with our team roster full and
our fabulous trailer all decked out with new
designs!

Intense Challenge Winter
National Race Report The weather was great and it turned
out to be the biggest moto count in a couple of years.
Our mity mights has good weekends with 7 X Dustin
Hammond winning class both days and finishing 2-3 on 7-8
open. Alden Volle finished strong with a 2nds in class
Saturday and Sunday and a 4th on cruiser Saturday.
Sunday he got mixed up with another rider in the first
corner and went off the track. Welcoming back one of
our past riders Christian Camacho ran into some tough
luck on Saturday but after being back racing only a few
weeks finished with a 3rd in the 12 x class. Great to
have Christian and his family back. Our other new rider
Heather Allred had a good debut with Intense/Challenge
with a pair of 2nds on cruiser. Good to have Heather
with the team. The weekend started out great for 14 year
old Dakota Isenberg winning cruiser on Saturday but got
caught up in class on Saturday and has a bad crash on
cruiser on Sunday during 1 st round to come back and
take a 2nd on cruiser. AA Pros Josh Oie had a great gate
first round on Saturday just behind Donny into the first
corner but company came fast running him off the track.
Sunday Josh rode well and made his semi`s but missed the
main by 1 place. AA Pro Trevor Fay took a 5 in pro
cruiser

Intense Challenge Pasco race
report Hello everyone, As most of you were aware a small
group of Intense/Challenge riders made the trip to Pasco
last weekend. here is Alden Volle was on fire all
weekend doubling on class and cruiser Saturday and
taking 1st on class and 2nd on cruiser Sunday. With a
short first straight and short track overall, Alden was
very aggressive down the first straight and into the
corners. On Sunday nothing changed taking a 2ND coming
from the outside on cruiser but killed class on 20 inch
with another win. Great job Alden. Our mighty mite
Dustin Hammond tore up the completion in class getting a
lead down the first straight and never giving it up.
Taking first on Saturday and Sunday in class and a 2ND
on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday in open. Great job Dustin.
Maybe you need to give your Dad a clinic. Another rider
making the trip having a good weekend was our senior
rider Trevor Fay. Trevor made both of his mains in AA
Saturday against the top group of pros. Sunday Trevor
won his first pro race wining Pro Cruiser. Our other AA
pro Josh Oie made the trip riding well but just missed
making the cut. Keep working Josh it will come around.
Danny Essley and Daniel Sawyer also made the trip and
both made mains on Sunday and rode well. Josh, Trevor
and Tommy are in Nellis this weekend, Lets wish the well
and I look forward to seeing all of you in Phoenix.

U S
National-Roseville - 2006 |

After 3 weeks of non stop
rain, a lot of people had their doubt`s if the U.S.
National at Oak Creek BMX in Roseville Ca. would be a
repeat of Ontario several years ago, but the Sky`s
cleared and track directors Bruce and Linda Minton did a
great job keeping the track in good shape. Intense /
Challenge came a needing a couple of good scores. With
no AA Class race, AA pros Josh Oie and Trevor Fay
decided to race in the Pro open for the weekend. Josh
had a good start taking a 2nd to AA Paul Lange Friday,
On Saturday with AA Paul Lange, AA Michael Hughes and
Trevor Fay, Vet # 1 Jason Carnes and a solid group of A
pros, Josh had a good race with Revtec`s Fabin Hernandez
on Saturday. With Hernandez winning a tie breaker and
Josh had to settle for a 2nd. Josh followed it up with a
win on Sunday. Trevor Fay rode well for spending the
week in the weight room, placing 3rd on Sunday. The team
did great on Saturday with a 220 score placing 2nd to
the Intense / Phantom-Ontrac crew. Sunday was like
watching domino`s for a number of our class riders,
going down one after the other and ended up with a 4th.
Our mighty mite Dustin Hammond continued to tear up the
7X class taking wins both Saturday and Sunday. Most of
the weekend Dustin was in another ZIP code. New team
member Heather Allread had another good weekend winning
Cruiser Saturday and Sunday. Taking a break from
competitive horse riding 15 year old Amanda Volle
returned to the BMX track taking a pair of 5Th`s in
class. Little brother Alden Volle took home a win in 9
Cruiser and was one of the domino`s hitting the ground
on Sunday in class. The surprise of the weekend might
have been returning team member Christian Camacho coming
off of a 3rd in Phoenix, won the 12 x and led from start
to finish. A great win after only being back for a
couple of months.Danny Essley, Dakotha
Isenberg and Daniel Sawyer all rode well making their
mains. a A Pro Tommy Bellew was fighting off a bug not
feeling 100% but will be ready for Lake Paris. 11x
Gerold Cuyle just getting back from a 2 week long field
trip to Washing D.C barley got on his by the weekend.
Our next team race will be at Lake Paris. Intense /

Challenge Racing -
Bakersfield - 2006 |

Well after rain on Friday it
looked like it was going to be a wet weekend. But it
cleared up for racing Friday night and turned out to be
a nice weekend of racing. From the get go Jordan Marinda
showed he was the man to beat in the 12 X class. Winning
both open and class and a 2nd in Cruiser on Saturday he
let his class know he wasn`t letting anyone beat him on
his home track. Sunday Jordon doubled in class took a
2nd in open and got caught up in some aggressive riding
in cruiser and went down. Great weekend for Jordon.
Dustin Hammond has a good weekend with a 2nd in Class
and open on Saturday followed up with a 2nd is class and
a 3rd in open after hitting the gate he caught the pack
and finished 3rd as a 7 year old. Good Job Dustin. Alden
Volle made both of his mains on Saturday with a 4th in
Class and and 2nd on cruiser. Sunday was even better
with 2 2nds. Dakotah Isenburg racing his first race at
14 was in good position to transfer out of semis but was
taken off the track at the last corner. The rider was
disqualified but it didn`t help Isenburg as the damage
was already done. He came back on Sunday making both of
his mains finishing the weekend with a 4th in class and
a 2nd on cruiser on Sunday he also finished 5 on cruiser
Saturday. Amanda Volle took a 4th Saturday and 5th on Sunday. Daniel ran
into some bad luck all weekend fighting a cold and flu.
Danny Essley took a 5th and 6th on Cruiser. AA Josh Oie
came down to get some track time racing open all 3 days.
taking a 3rd on Friday and Sunday and hitting the dirt
on Saturday. A pro Tommy Bellew just missed making mains
both days. Both are getting ready for Washington the
next AA race. The team had some bad luck on Saturday
with Isenberg going down but came back with a 3rd on
Sunday.
